So your client sends you an important file but you can't view or open it because it's an '.ai' Adobe Illustrator file and you don't have the application!
Here's how you open them without Illustrator.
You will need Adobe Reader so if you haven't got it you can down load it for free from adobe.com
Now simply rename the file by changing the file extension from .ai to .pdf.
The file will now open as any other PDF file.
